Fixed - A documentary exploring the global reality of electronic waste

On June 2, 2026, our customer Refurbed premiered the documentary fixed - Accra's Answer to Europe's E-Waste in Vienna. We worked alongside Refurbed to set up the field trip to Ghana and organized the local visits with researchers, recyclers, repair workers, and government representatives. The film examines global electronic waste flows, circular electronics, and the responsibility Europe holds in technology supply chains. According to the United Nations Global E-Waste Monitor 2024, humanity generated 62 million metric tonnes of electronic waste in 2022, yet under 22 percent was formally documented as properly collected and recycled.

Looking beyond European media narratives

Earlier this year, we co-organized a delegation with Refurbed to bring European journalists to Ghana to inspect what happens to exported electronics. The group visited Accra and Agbogbloshie, an area long depicted by European media as a simple waste dump. The meetings we set up on the ground revealed a far more nuanced operational reality. Conversations with local technicians, recyclers, and officials challenged basic assumptions about waste exports and highlighted local material recovery efforts.

Repair economies and circular thinking in Ghana

The documentary documents practical repair networks in Accra where technicians use high technical skill to keep hardware functional under constrained resources. The film also outlines several systemic flaws in the global electronics industry.
