Electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally. While organizations replace old equipment and deploy new IT hardware daily, the fallout often happens entirely out of sight. Reuzado is changing that dynamic with the Kilo-For-Kilo program, directly linking everyday IT usage to global accountability.

For every kilogram of IT hardware an organization uses, replaces, or disposes of, a kilogram of electronic waste is collected and recycled in Kenya. Reuzado already takes responsibility for its customers in the Netherlands. Now, those same customers can extend that responsibility to the exact regions where e-waste often ends up.

As owner Fulco Rouwhorst states, what you use has an impact somewhere in the world, and with Kilo-For-Kilo, that impact becomes concrete and positive. The goal is to help organizations handle their internal IT sustainably while tackling the broader global e-waste crisis.

#### Applying circular thinking globally

A significant amount of e-waste still slips into unregulated processing environments. Reuzado sidesteps this by enforcing a strictly controlled process. Collection, transport, and recycling are handled through direct collaboration with local initiatives. If a participant uses or disposes of a kilogram of IT equipment, exactly one kilogram of e-waste is processed properly elsewhere.

The groundwork for this process is powered by Minimise. Minimise has been driving the circular economy in over 15 countries and is now structuring these operations to meet the best practices of TCO Certified Edge E-waste Compensated. Every step is logged in the Minimise registry. This means participating organizations get verifiable environmental impact data to back up their extended producer responsibility and sustainability claims.

#### Impact beyond recycling

The Kilo-For-Kilo program creates immediate, physical benefits in Kenya.

* Job creation for local communities
* Technical training for workers
* Prevention of hazardous environmental situations
* Recovery of valuable raw materials

Rouwhorst notes that the focus is on building a fairer system where materials stay in the loop and people work in safe conditions.

Moving toward a world without e-waste

Kilo-For-Kilo is the next logical step in Reuzado's mission to make IT fully circular. The objective is to keep electronic waste in a sustainable supply chain rather than letting it disappear into landfills. As Rouwhorst concludes, no single organization can solve this alone, but collective action makes a dent, kilo by kilo.
